A flying sail is a sail that is not attached at the front. Spinnakers are a type of flying sail, asymmetrical spinnakers are as well. Most headsails are attached to a wire in the front of the boat, either by a furling unit, or a wire. I developed a design that allows the sail to fly free in the front and still act like an attached jib, genoa, or drifter. These are not just light air nylon sails, but I build them using Dacron and Cruising laminates. It acts like a headsail and will point into the wind and when eased, it works off wind or downwind as well. The G-Spinn is a type of flying sail. Not attached at the front, but will point into the wind when the luff or leading edge of the sail is tightened.
